Against the Dying of the Light

As I was growing up in the shadow of my father's library, the drive for understanding others grew into a constant in my personal and professional life.

It did so literally as I invested my first time in university studying social psychology. It continued professionally as I became an international journalist specializing in Russia and the FSU region. It continued as I took the chance to study political philosophy in Tartu upon realizing the trade I love is not enough for me when it comes to confronting the era of post-truth. And it continues today, as I teach courses on social science, philosophy and international relations at university level.

Finding a new home in Estonia in 2011 only increased this drive, as I entered a society with cultural and historical backgrounds much different from those of my native Spain. Through the years and a slow process of understanding, I have come to value (perhaps even admire) the discreet resolution and courage my adopted land has shown in rebuilding itself after a long night of barbaric occupation.

This blog is the place where my discoveries and attempts at understanding the world, its social reality, the beauty of its ideas, and the callous realities of power come to live. Everyone's welcome to read, share, and engage with them or myself.

See you!
